Whats the difference between the Club and the Party?

I'm a Republican but I don't pay dues to the Club, am I still a part?

The short answer is if you vote in the Republican Primary Election, you are considered a member of the Republican Party. No dues are required.

The Club is a separate entity from the official Polk County Republican Party. The club has dues that they collect for their PAC

What is a PAC?

If the Club is a PAC, what is that? Is the Party a PAC?

PAC stands for Political Action Committee, it’s a popular term for a political committee organized for the purpose of raising and spending money to elect and defeat candidates. Most PACs represent business, labor or ideological interests. The Polk County Republican Party is part of the State of Texas Republican Party and is not a PAC.

The Republican Club of Polk County is not an official part of the Republican Party of Texas, nor is it a recognized auxiliary of the county party. It is a General Political Action Committee (GPAC) governed by a Board of Directors elected by the PAC membership.

You can find some "light reading" here that explains the rules that PACS must adhere to in Texas. Once a political committee has filed an appointment of campaign treasurer, the campaign treasurer
must begin filing reports of contributions and expenditures. These are available for review by the public at the State of Texas Ethics Commission website.

Does the Club financially support the Party?

I thought when I donated or paid my dues to the Republican Club that the money was helping the Republican Party,

The simple answer is no.

The Club has not financially supported Polk County Republican Party since 2015, which is why we are now fundraising.

We are doing so in order to ensure the Republican Party of Texas and Polk County stays strong.

Can I be a member of both?

I want to help in any way I can, can I be a member of both the Party and the Club?
